Inspired by Bakers Against Racism (unofficially the world's largest bake sale), which began after the death of George Floyd in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, a small group of us PDX Bakers threw on aprons one warm June afternoon and got baking. We turned around a cookie box in just a few days, and, to our great surprise, were able to raise more than $1,000 for two local BIPOC groups.
Energized by our community's response, we decided to go all in, making a pastry box every month, with 100% of sales going directly to groups in Portland. By the end of 2020, we raised more than $10,000.
